Kaleigh Ryan #25

What does being a powerful woman mean to you?
To be a powerful woman is to be exactly and exclusively yourself. To be a powerful woman is to be proud of the way you’re made and the way you walk through the world, lifting up others along the way.

What is something you have done, overcome, created, or accomplished that makes you proud?
I am incredibly proud of my shiny new master’s degree that I poured blood, sweat, and lots of tears into these past few years, but it’s DONE and I DID IT. WAHOO.

Who is a woman who has influenced, inspired, or empowered you—and why?
As cliché as it might be to write my mother, it’s my mother. She’s brilliant, thoughtful, kind, funny, and the hardest-working woman alive. She bears her burdens and fixes the problems of others without batting an eye, even when realistically she should go relax in the Hingham Salt Caves, ’cause hell if she hasn’t earned a day off.

What is something you know about yourself now that you didn't know when you were younger?
When I was younger, I didn’t know that cargo pants would someday make a huge comeback and that having ample pocket space in an outfit was going to matter so deeply to me.

What do you bring to your family, your work, your community, or the world that you believe matters?
I am pretty solid at creating and bolstering communities. Ensuring the quiet kid feels welcome, dragging introverts to the dance floor, and generally being a blast is my favorite way to connect and can bring a sort of light to dull days.

What is one thing you will never apologize for being?
I will never apologize for being too chatty in class. They tried to get me on that on my report cards as a kid—my mom was right when she said the trait would serve me well when I’m older.

And finally: What makes you roar?
Creating and existing within gorgeous communities!
